On Saturday 21st September around midday, gunmen marched into Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya and took over the building.
As I draft this post, it’s day three of a long heartrending siege.
Sixty one lives have been lost and over one hundred and seventy five people injured.
Delicate rescue efforts are underway to free hostages and end the carnage.
Families are devastated, a country is in mourning.
I have been following the news, thousands of miles away from home and my heart is heavy and broken.
I have asked questions, as we do in moments of sadness…and received not the reassuring answer I hoped for.
Instead God has sought to help me me see what He sees
Through a gentle word, spoken to a teary heart – this world is not your home. Everyone will one day exit.
It’s a gentle but sober word, one that has helped shift and shape perspective.
Not made the ache or the tears any less.
But reminded me of a truth I so easily forget, and not just today.
The world is broken and we cannot fix it.
And eternity is a long long long time to be without a Savior.

The siege ended on Tues night/Wed morn. Please pray for the injured and families that have lost loved ones.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
