Summer… when days are long and warm and there’s much to do! And eat! 🙂
My days have been long and wonderful, with my brother visiting from Kenya, a friend dropping in for a week and preparing for new opportunities to encourage marrieds.
I probably shouldn’t be smiling this much after a funeral, which my brother had just conducted – he’s a Catholic priest. But it was his first day in the US and I was super happy to have him around!
With my sis and brother..(and I do wear other colors other besides black!).
There’s been lots of Kenya-style grilling! In this plate – Nyama choma (grilled beef and chicken), Ugali (Corn meal) Kachumbari (diced tomatoes, onions, cilantro, pepper), Avocado
The thing about having a happy-busy season is that you don’t realize how much you are extending yourself. Until one day you wake up, have breakfast and promptly fall back to sleep! That was me last week.
Well, I am trying to finish the week strong and energetic for my honey and a weekend assignment. So just a few updates today, including some thoughts that having been on my mind lately.
Early 2014, my husband and I began to plan for a marriage conference for pastors and leaders in Kisii, Kenya, in line with our vision to build capacities. We scheduled the conference for March 2015. (You can find more details here)
Unfortunately we were unable to raise the full funds needed. So we postponed the event and continued to trust God for direction and funds.
This past July, it happened! By the grace of God, 30 leadership couples came together for a day of teaching and ministry. The event was a paired down version of what we had initially planned but God showed up and lives and marriages were transformed.

The couple who taught and carried the conference, Pastor Barnabas and Grace Achoki. The picture was taken before everyone came in.
Thank you for praying and giving!
Surrendering your cares to God
The other day I was praying over some needs my husband and I have. I was going on and on about it when the Holy Spirit reminded me about my sweet sleep from the previous night. How I did not have to wake up to remind myself to breath. I just slept, He kept me breathing and I woke up in the morning.
God told me that no matter how my situation looks, He’s working in the back ground.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:26
I don’t know what you are going through today, I just want to speak encouragement to you. Life can be hard, marriage can be hard. And sometimes it feels like God is unaware, disconnected.
But God is always at work.
He who causes us to breath while we are sleeping is always working behind the scenes.
The world is getting darker
There’s so much pain and heartbreak in our world today. The brazenness of sin, the tragedy of wars and terror, the fear, our misplaced priorities. Humanity without Christ is tragic.
I’ve cried “Come quickly, Lord Jesus” more times than I’ve had before.
I know there’s work to be done before He comes back, souls to be saved. But I long for His coming, when wars will cease, pain will end and the world will be reconciled to the Prince of Peace and Savior of our souls.
Maybe you read this blog and you don’t know this great King. How he loves you and longs to bring real peace and healing to you.
“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.” Romans 3:22-25 (NLT)
Would you consider inviting Jesus into your life?
I love that through Him, I am not only assured of eternal life, but victory in my here and now. He freed me from paralyzing fear, helped me overcome addictions to ungodly music and books. He healed my marriage, countless times he’s saved me from accidents.
I could fill pages, writing about all He’s done for me and in me. Life is not always peachy and perfect. But because He’s with me, it’s beautiful, even in the bumps and valleys.
